Connecting a router disconnects powerlines

  Midlands 22:21 02 Oct 2018

Hello forum.

Hopefully someone can help.

I use tp link av2000 powerlines without any trouble at all most of the time.

However, when I connect a wireless router to one of them so I can have a stronger second wireless signal in another part of the house the powerlines stop working.

They still show all the usual led's as if everything is fine but there is no connectivity.

I then have to disconnect the second router and pair all of them again for them to work again.

If anybody knows why this is happening and if there's a solution I'd be very appreciative!

Thanks.

I think you need to set it up before connecting it to the Powerline. By that I mean set the network IP address using it as a Bridge.

What's happenig is it's current settings are over-riding the main network setup with incorrect information - where's FruitBat when I need him? LOL

Yes you need to do a little set up work on the second router. Make and model of router will help us give more specific advice but to start with you need to turn DHCP OFF on the second router. This allows first router to be DHCP server. Also 2nd router needs to be on the same group of addresses. Example - BT routers are 192.168.1.254. Some routers are 192.168.0.1 - The THIRD number must match so in this example I would set the second router to 192.168.1.200 I would also change the SSID & password on the 2nd router to match the main router.

Thank you all. Very useful advice and working now. I bridged the routers using wan to wan through the power line adapter, turned off dhcp and changed the second router ip address as you suggested and happy days everything is working perfectly. Thank you!
