Good Evening All

This is one of two aircraft I shall be putting on tonight and those of a nervous disposition should be warned that in this one the plane has crashed and the pilot’s body is shown but not in closeup.

Can anyone identify what type of aircraft it is?

I don't know the answer but why make it easy for the enemy by having a ruddy great Target painted on the outside of your warplane?

To stop your own side shooting at you!

jb, thanks.

The tailplane does not look like a Sopwith Pup or Camel

Answer

Looks like a sesquiplane and that would make it a Nieuport fighter, there doesn't appear to be a faired in pilots headrest, so I think it's a model 11.

Possibly a 17 withe the shape of the rudders

Belatucadrus & Fruit Bat /\0/\. I'm pretty certain it is a Nieuport fighter, we will never be able to really tell because it is pretty well wrecked! Well Done both.

From Model 16 on Nieuports had a headrest which is absent in the photo, so I'll stick with Model 11.

Good find, both. The shape of the tailplane / rudder was the key.

Belatucadrus, duly bookmarked for later perusal, thanks.
