stop annoying pop-ups on my Desktop

A few weeks ago I received an email from an astrologer which I marked as Junk and deleted; since then I am getting a large pop-up on the R/Hand bottom corner of my desktop which asks me to go to the web page of this person for some great news. I cannot get rid of it. It comes up every hour or so. I have a full AVG programme and Malaware bytes running all the time but it hasn't stopped this thing from coming up. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

TN, I doubt that there's anything sinister going on. From what you've described it sounds like you've allowed notifications from that astrologer's website.

Before I can help you'll need to confirm that you're using Windows 10 and also let me know which web browser you use.

Thanks Fruit Bat for the tip - I'd never heard of this programme but I have downloaded and installed it and am now waiting to see if it has done its magic! (I should say that if I had £1 for every time you have helped in the past I could have a great night out!)also thanks Secret Squirrel: I agree with the reasoning for I had thought that I must have clicked something to get this nuisance to install! I use Vivaldi as my main browser and Opera as a second one which I use only occasionally. I am using Windows 10 64 bit and all updates are installed.

Sorry to say that the Software solution hasn't got rid of the pop-up! It showed it's case 48 minutes after a reboot!!

Then Secret-Squirrel is probably right an you need to disable notifications from the Astrolger site.

I use Vivaldi as my main browser..................

Ah, I'm not familiar with that one but apparently it's based on Google Chrome so copy and paste this into Vivaldi's Address Bar at the top:

chrome://settings/content/notifications

Scroll down the list and see if you can see that Astrology website. If you can then remove it.

Just in case it's a Windows 10 notification you're seeing, head over to Windows Settings -> System -> Notifications. Again, see if you can find that specific website listed then remove it.

If none of that helps then it would help me greatly if you could post a screenshot of that pesky pop-up including a bit of the surrounding area.

Did you mean to post the exact same reply that you gave to Fruit Bat's suggestion? If you did then none of that is any help to me.

No my sincere apologies: my only excuse for the 'double entry' is that it was still showing POST a short time after I had thought I had sent it and I clicked POST again. As well as that I am 82 years old so there is a wee bit of an excuse. I am grateful for the help and suggestions you both have given me.

click here is probably what Secret-Squirrel is referring to.
